Untamed Tribe is built by operators who do the work.
Our team is composed of guides, instructors, and field operators with years of experience in demanding environments—mountains, jungles, oceans, and remote terrain where decisions carry consequence and experience determines outcome.
We do not use spectators.
We develop leaders through direct exposure and execution.
Our Philosophy
We operate with intent. Every decision is guided by three principles:
Competence over ego
Skill, preparation, and judgment take priority over perception.
Safety without compromise
Standards are enforced. Risk is managed, not ignored.
Growth through controlled challenge
Capability is built through exposure to difficulty, not avoidance of it.
Who You’ll Be Guided By
Our guides are selected, not hired seasonally.
They include:
- Expedition leaders with sustained field experience
- Certified instructors across mountaineering, diving, navigation, and wilderness medicine
- Military veterans and search & rescue professionals
- Outdoor educators and technical specialists
Each is trained to:
- Lead small teams under pressure
- Manage risk in dynamic environments
- Deliver structured, outcome-driven experiences
More Than Guides
Every expedition operates within a defined system:
Operations & Logistics
Route design, permits, contingency planning, and real-time decision support.
Training & Curriculum
Progressive systems that prepare participants before and during field exposure.
Partnerships & Local Expertise
Vetted regional operators and long-term relationships in each environment.
Our Commitment
You are not purchasing a trip.
You are entering a structured system designed to build capability.
We assess where you are.
We apply the appropriate level of challenge.
We move you forward.
The Standard
You do not need prior experience to begin.
You do need:
- Commitment
- Accountability
- Willingness to operate outside comfort
Access to advanced environments is earned through preparation or demonstrated capability.

Derek Morris
Founder and Expedition Leader
Derek’s background is built on disciplined fieldcraft, operational experience, and global training environments. As an Army combat veteran and infantryman in Alaska, he developed competence in wilderness survival, land navigation, cold-weather operations, and expedition movement under extreme conditions. Under mentors such as Sgt. Pike, he refined climbing and backcountry systems that continue to inform how he operates in high-risk environments. Extended exposure to remote terrain and unforgiving conditions established a foundation of resilience, judgment, and practical survival capability.
That foundation expanded globally—from training in Bokator in Cambodia and Muay Sangha in Thailand to working with the Pencak Silat Olympic team in Laos. In China, he combined teaching with cultural immersion, and in Florida he extended his operational range into scuba diving and offshore sailing, building capability in dive planning, maritime navigation, and risk management. Each phase reinforced a consistent focus: the ability to operate with competence, adapt under pressure, and make sound decisions in dynamic environments.

Adam Petrie
Expedition Guide: Botany Specialist
Adam is a United States Air Force veteran with a field-driven understanding of natural systems and how they function under real conditions.
What began as a personal interest in plant identification developed into a focused study of ecosystems, species interaction, and land-based awareness. Through sustained fieldwork and mentorship within the naturalist and conservation communities, he built a working knowledge of how environments operate beyond surface-level observation.
Adam’s work centers on developing situational awareness in others—teaching participants to read terrain, identify native species, and understand the relationships that define a landscape. His approach integrates field identification, ecological context, and practical application in survival and land stewardship. Whether operating in Florida’s backcountry or instructing in the field, he emphasizes observation, pattern recognition, and applied knowledge.
For Adam, expeditions are a tool for building awareness and respect for the environments participants move through. The objective is not passive appreciation, but the ability to interpret, navigate, and operate within natural systems with clarity and intent.

Sam Johnson
Expedition Guide: Sailing, Diving & Cave Exploration Specialist
Sam is an expedition guide with operational experience across maritime, underwater, and subsurface environments where awareness and adaptability are required.
Her foundation was built through sailing, where she developed working competence in wind, weather, and navigation under changing conditions. That experience expanded into diving and cave exploration, establishing a capability set centered on precision, planning, and control across both open and confined environments.
Her progression reflects a shift from exposure to execution. Offshore sailing developed independence and environmental awareness. Diving introduced stricter requirements for discipline, system management, and situational control below the surface. In cave and subsurface environments, her approach becomes increasingly methodical—focused on navigation, redundancy, and maintaining clarity under constraint.
Sam’s work is focused on developing capability in others. She teaches participants to operate in unfamiliar environments by breaking down complex systems into clear, actionable skills. Her instruction is calm, direct, and structured to build confidence through demonstrated competence, not assumption.
For Sam, expeditions are a platform for developing awareness, strengthening decision-making, and learning to operate with control in dynamic environments. The objective is not simply movement through terrain, but the ability to do so with clarity, precision, and intent.

Bryce Mastin
Expedition Guide: Huntsmen and Head Marksmanship Instructor
Bryce is a retired combat infantry veteran with deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq.
Raised in Minnesota, his foundation was built in the Northwoods through hunting, fishing, and sustained time in the field. That early exposure developed a practical understanding of terrain, wildlife behavior, and the discipline required to operate effectively outdoors.
His background reflects a consistent focus on execution. Military service reinforced decision-making under pressure, accountability, and small-team operations. In the field, that translates to a methodical approach to tracking, movement, and ethical harvest.
Bryce currently operates within his local hunting community and guides for Untamed Tribe, leading participants through structured hunts that prioritize awareness, patience, and control. His instruction is direct and experience-based, focused on developing capability rather than relying on assumption.
For Bryce, hunting is not recreation. It is a discipline built on respect for the environment, understanding of the animal, and the ability to operate with intent in dynamic conditions.

Hiring!
Fitness and Wellness Specialist, Untamed Tribe
The role:
As a Fitness and Performance Specialist with Untamed Tribe, you develop clients who can execute in real environments.
Your role is to build physical capacity, durability, and work output aligned to expedition demands. You design structured training systems that translate beyond the gym—into trail movement, climbing, paddling, load carriage, and sustained field performance.
You work 1-on-1 with clients in a virtual setting, using their current baseline, operating environment, and objectives to build programs that are practical, repeatable, and measurable. Training is not generalized—it is applied to the specific conditions they will face.
This includes:
- Strength and endurance development tied to expedition requirements
- Movement efficiency across varied terrain and load conditions
- Nutrition guidance to support performance, recovery, and sustainability
- Progressive programming that builds capability over time
The objective is not short-term fitness.
It is long-term capability.
Clients leave with the ability to move farther, carry more, recover faster, and make better decisions under physical stress.
